Nine years before HOWL, Harrowdale had an omega. Her name was Maren.
Then a sealed Wardenry order reaches the valley on the final traffic before winter closure. It says Maren will be surrendered at the first passable thaw route. Her bonds do not matter. Harrowdale's objection does not matter. Her refusal does not stay the order.
Snow can hold the road closed. It cannot keep spring from coming.
THAW is a dark Harrowdale prequel novella about found family, institutional power, and the part of refusal no command can take. It contains no romance or sexual content and ends bleakly by design.

THAW contains institutional abduction and forced reassignment; repeated refusal that authorities hear and deliberately disregard; abuse of institutional authority; threats to bodily autonomy; forced separation from found family; and a bleak ending.
The final chapters contain nonsexual compulsion and loss of bodily control. A command overrides Maren's forward locomotion and uses her balance while her thought, memory, judgment, speech, identity, and refusal remain intact. The removal is forced even though no one physically seizes her.
Other content includes omegaverse designation, scent, biological quieting, and four companionate nonsexual partial bonds; visible alpha strain eased by those bonds, with the deterioration it implies established in HOWL; fear and anticipatory distress; a dangerous winter crossing; falls through unstable snow, a frightening attempt to help someone out, wet clothing and cold exposure.
THAW contains no sexual or romantic content, sexual assault, dubcon, noncon, cheating, group sex, on-page male-male sexual contact, bonding bites, heat, knotting, pregnancy, or on-page death.
This novella is a found-family tragedy. It does not end with an HEA or HFN. Maren's refusal remains her own through the final line.
